Heidi Richards Mooney, AAF is a floral designer/artist, wedding consultant and event planner. Heidi has four decades as a business owner, with real-life, in-the-trenches business experience, running a profitable florist since 1981.
Publisher & Editor-in-Chief, Flowers Galore Magazine
Heidi Richards Mooney is a lifelong entrepreneur, writer, and floral industry advocate whose creative spark has inspired both the business and floral worlds for decades. She is the originator of Get Out of the Doghouse Day®—a lighthearted holiday born from a 1,000-person survey and her now-famous article, “Women Want Flowers, Men Want Sex.” Officially proclaimed by Mayor Lori Moseley of Miramar, Florida in 2000, the holiday is celebrated annually on the third Monday of July.
An accomplished author, Heidi has written eight books and co-authored two more. She has also published and edited dozens of eBooks and is the force behind several international online magazines in addition to Flowers Galore Magazine, including WE Magazine for Women, Women of Wisdom Magazine, and Marketing Small Business Magazine. Her bylines span thousands of media outlets worldwide, covering topics from business development and leadership to creativity, entrepreneurship, and, of course, flowers.
Contributions to the Floral Industry
Heidi’s deep roots in the floral community include decades of leadership and service:

Florida State Florist Association (FSFA): Contributed to the 1991 Annual Convention, served on the Sunlighting Magazine editorial committee, and wrote extensively on floral marketing—work that later evolved into her second book, Rose Marketing on a Daisy Budget. She also served on membership committees and helped drive growth within FSFA.

Broward County Florist Association: Revitalized membership materials and the Rosevine newsletter, restructured the Board of Directors, created a recognition program for new members, and expanded the organization’s reach by securing new sponsors and growing the member database by 50%.

Florists’ Transworld Delivery Association (FTDA): Served as secretary, created the district newsletter Florist Talk District 14G — News Petals, and co-chaired the origal Gateway to the Americas event. She also co-presented floral programs, including A Southern Flair at the 1998 FTD Convention.

She has hosted hundreds of webinars and teleseminars on business growth, social media, and digital marketing strategies.
Personal
Heidi is a proud mother of three daughters—Jennifer, Alexis (deceased), and Suzannah—and grandmother to five grandchildren, all of whom learned early on the joys and challenges of entrepreneurship. She has been married to her husband Timmy for decades, cherishes her friendships, and brings a deep sense of community to everything she does. Originally from California, Heidi has called Florida home since 1974.
